Our congratulations to the members of the Harris Erickson (Victoria) and the Sweeny Cup (Mainland) Groups who will celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the HUNTTING CUP on August 8, 2022 at Gorge Vale Golf Club. These two groups provide an excellent venue for women golfers with low handicaps to hone their golfing skills in competition.
With the exception of the War Years (1940 – 1947) and the Pandemic (2020 – 2021) when the competition was suspended, this trophy has been played for continuously and it is always an honour to be selected to represent the home team.
Established in 1922, the Cup was donated by Mrs. Foster Huntting of Jericho Golf Club and was to be competed for each year by a team of players from Jericho and Shaughnessy Golf Clubs vs a team from Victoria and Royal Colwood Golf Clubs. As years went by and memberships increased, it was decided to expand to include the Victoria area and the Vancouver area.
The Harris Erickson Group was named after its founders, Peggy Harris (Victoria) and Helen Erickson (Uplands) and the Sweeny Cup after Violet Pooley Sweeny (born in Victoria; a member of Victoria and Jericho Golf Clubs)
