Greg Moody presents 2016 BC Bantam Trophy to Akari Hayaski (Uplands)
Akari picked up her first win in a BC Golf Championship event after serving notice for the last couple of years that the now 13-year old was going to be a force on the girls’ circuit. The Bantam Championship was played August 22nd – 24th at Bowen Is. Golf Club.
After starting rather slowly with a 6-over par first round, Akari got back to her steady game in round two and relied on her iron play which was truly evident in how she took on the 6 par 3’s, playing them in 4-under to help offset 3 bogies.
Akari has played extremely well this year placing 5th at the BC Juniors in Pemberton, and 2nd at the BC Juveniles at Chilliwack Golf Club. Add the Amateur title in the Zone, 2nd at the Zone Juniors and T22 at the BC Amateur and T21 at the CDN Juniors, all and all a pretty terrific year.
While the golf season is not yet over, Akari will be concentrating on starting grade 9 at Mount Douglas Secondary in just a week or so.
